Terms & Conditions

Please read these terms carefully before using RetroRevive's repair services. By submitting a repair request you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By submitting a repair request to RetroRevive, shipping hardware to us, or otherwise engaging our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions in full. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our services.

These terms apply to all repair, diagnosis, and restoration services provided by RetroRevive (ABN 98 573 914 328), operating from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

2. Service Description

RetroRevive provides mail-in vintage hardware restoration services for computers, gaming consoles, CRT monitors, and related equipment. Our services include but are not limited to capacitor replacement (recapping), fault diagnosis, battery damage repair, console restoration, CRT servicing, and BIOS upgrades.

Diagnosis Fee: A diagnosis fee of $40–$80 AUD applies to all jobs. This fee covers the time required to assess your hardware and identify the fault. If you choose to proceed with the repair, the diagnosis fee is deducted from the final repair cost. If you choose not to proceed, the diagnosis fee is payable before your hardware is returned.

All services are performed at our Melbourne workshop. RetroRevive is a mail-in only service — we do not accept walk-in customers.

3. Quotes and Approval

No repair work will commence without your explicit approval of our quoted price.

Once diagnosis is complete, we will contact you via email with a fixed quote covering all parts and labour. You will have the opportunity to review and either approve or decline the quote through your customer portal at retrorevive.com.au/portal.

Approved quotes: If you approve the quote, repair work will begin promptly and you will be kept informed of progress.

Declined quotes: If you decline the quote, your hardware will be returned to you upon payment of the diagnosis fee. You are responsible for the cost of return shipping.

Quotes are valid for 14 days. If we do not receive a response within 14 days, we may follow up by email. Hardware left without a response for 60 days following notification is subject to the Unclaimed Hardware policy in Section 9.

4. Payment Terms

Payment method: RetroRevive accepts payment via PayPal only. No other payment methods are accepted.

Payment timing: Full payment of the agreed repair cost (including return shipping) is required before your hardware is returned to you. You will receive a PayPal invoice via email. Hardware will not be shipped until payment is confirmed.

Diagnosis fee: Where a repair is declined, the diagnosis fee must be paid before return shipping is arranged.

Currency: All prices are quoted and charged in Australian Dollars (AUD).

Return shipping: Return shipping costs are quoted separately from the repair cost and will be included on your PayPal invoice. You are responsible for inbound shipping to our workshop.

5. Warranty

RetroRevive provides a 30-day warranty on parts and materials only from the date of return shipment.

What is covered: Defects in replacement components or materials supplied by RetroRevive. If a replacement capacitor, component, or other part we have installed fails within 30 days due to a manufacturing defect, we will repair or replace it at no additional parts cost.

What is not covered: - Labour costs are not covered under warranty - Pre-existing damage, faults, or conditions present before repair - Damage caused by misuse, improper storage, physical impact, liquid damage, or modifications made after repair - Normal wear and tear - Faults unrelated to the repair performed - Damage caused by inbound or return shipping

Warranty claims: To make a warranty claim, contact us at repairs@retrorevive.com.au within the 30-day warranty period with a description of the issue. You will be responsible for shipping costs to return the hardware for warranty assessment.

6. Limitation of Liability

RetroRevive takes every reasonable precaution in handling your hardware, but vintage equipment can be fragile and unpredictable. By engaging our services, you acknowledge and agree to the following limitations:

Pre-existing damage: RetroRevive is not liable for any damage, faults, or deterioration that was present before the hardware was received by us. We will document the condition of your hardware upon receipt.

Data loss: RetroRevive is not responsible for any loss of data stored on hard drives, memory cards, ROM chips, or any other storage medium in or connected to your hardware. Please back up any data you wish to preserve before shipping.

Transit damage (inbound): RetroRevive is not liable for damage that occurs during inbound shipping. You are responsible for packing your hardware securely and obtaining appropriate transit insurance.

Latent faults: Vintage hardware may have pre-existing latent faults that only become apparent during or after repair. We will notify you of any additional faults discovered during diagnosis, but we are not liable for failures attributable to pre-existing conditions.

Maximum liability: To the maximum extent permitted by Australian consumer law, RetroRevive's total liability to you for any claim arising from our services shall not exceed the amount you paid us for the repair in question.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.

7. Customer Responsibilities

By submitting a repair request and shipping hardware to RetroRevive, you agree to the following responsibilities:

Accurate description: You will provide an accurate and complete description of the hardware and the fault or issue you are experiencing. Inaccurate descriptions may result in additional diagnosis time and costs.

Secure packaging: You are responsible for packaging your hardware securely for transit. We strongly recommend using appropriate padding (bubble wrap, foam, anti-static bags for circuit boards), a sturdy box, and double-boxing for particularly fragile items. See our packing guide at retrorevive.com.au/resources/how-to-pack-vintage-hardware-for-shipping.

Inbound shipping cost: You are responsible for all costs associated with shipping your hardware to our Melbourne workshop, including transit insurance if desired.

Hardware ownership: You confirm that you are the legal owner of the hardware or have the authority of the owner to submit it for repair.

Contact information: You are responsible for providing and maintaining accurate contact information, including a valid email address for communications and your return shipping address.

8. Unclaimed Hardware

If we are unable to contact you, or if you do not respond to our communications regarding a quote or payment, we will make reasonable attempts to reach you via email.

Unclaimed hardware policy: Hardware that remains unclaimed 60 days after we first notify you of a completed diagnosis or completed repair may be disposed of at our discretion. This may include recycling, donation, or sale, with proceeds applied to outstanding diagnosis fees and storage costs.

We will make a minimum of three contact attempts before treating hardware as unclaimed. If you believe your hardware may be at risk of being treated as unclaimed, contact us immediately at repairs@retrorevive.com.au.

9. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.

These terms do not limit any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)).
